Key Features of the Nurse Residency Program A 13-15-month program that promotes a smooth transition into practice Curriculum follows Vizient/AACN program, focusing on leadership, professional role, quality outcomes and scholarship for nursing practice A series of thoughtfully developed classes that enhance skills in critical thinking skills, leadership, professional development, patient safety, and outcomes Required participation in monthly sessions Goals Transition from entry-level, advanced beginner nurse to a competent professional nurse Develop effective decision-making skills related to clinical judgment and performance Provide clinical leadership at the bedside Incorporate research-based evidence into practice Professional growth and development Promote lifelong commitment to the profession of nursing Develop, implement, and disseminate an evidence-based project Expected Outcomes Completion of the NRP, Completion of an Evidence-Based Practice/Process Improvement Initiative (EBP/PI), Satisfactory performance during clinical orientation and the first 12 months, Satisfactory aggregate results on the surveys related to autonomy and satisfaction, Completion and submission of a professional portfolio, and Promotion from RN I to RN II. Application Requirements Successful completion of an accredited BSN or entry level MSN program Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital ONLY : For Associate degree in Nursing (ADN) graduates, qualification and continued employment are contingent upon active pursuit of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree and acquiring the BSN degree within 3 years Eligible for RN licensure in Texas or GN permit (issued with your authorization to test) Less than six months of licensed nursing experience 3.0 Nursing GPA Preferred In addition, please ensure that you have completed all the required elements in the registration process.
